Singapore Chapter
President's Message
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great honour and humility that I accept my appointment as President of the Singapore chapter of the International College of Surgeons (ICS) for the third time since joining in 2010. Leading ICS Singapore once again is both a privilege and a challenge, especially in a fast-evolving medical landscape where many doctors focus increasingly on their specialties and subspecialties.
Despite these changes, ICS holds a unique and vital role in the global medical community. We are the only non-governmental surgical organization officially affiliated with the World Health Organization, and we have contributed to countless humanitarian efforts worldwide. ICS unites surgeons and doctors from various disciplines, fostering collaboration and mutual understanding across borders, races, and religions.
In the next two years of my tenure, my primary goal is to revitalise ICS Singapore and expand our membership. To achieve this, we will organise more events, both social and professional. I am pleased to announce that Dr David Jen and Dr Roy Chio have graciously agreed to lead our social activities. On the professional front, we plan to form new subspecialty groups within the Singapore chapter, reflecting our diverse expertise. These groups will rotate in hosting Continuing Medical Education (CME) talks, culminating in our 44th Biennial International Conference, scheduled for 27th to 29th November 2025. At this event, we will welcome delegates from around the world, showcasing Singapore’s unique strengths and making you proud to be part of our team.
Collaboration will be key to our success. We will strengthen our ties with other societies, particularly regional ICS chapters, to create more opportunities for humanitarian work and shared learning. Recently, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ICS Malaysia, along with ICS Indonesia and ICS Taiwan, to establish the first regional training center at Malaysia’s Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman Hospital.
Together, we will deepen our camaraderie, bringing doctors from all disciplines closer to working in harmony for the betterment of society and humanity. I am ready to serve you and contribute to this noble cause.
Warm regards,
Elias Tam
President, ICS Singapore
